Home for the Weekend

I was able to come home for a few days to interview at the location I am trying to transfer to full-time, and had a chance to see my family and hang out with my sisters. We were out enjoying the day and decided to come back to one of our old favorite places- The Pooh Bridge. Now, I know that many people nowadays do not know who Winnie the Pooh is, or have never played Pooh-sticks (shame on you!), but it was a tradition in my family. And this is the location we used to play it at (hence the name).
What was once a lovely flowing creek and a busy park, today is overgrown, neglected and the creek holds barely a trickle. But we still love it, and like remembering all the memories we had playing there.
I've really been in love with Hunter Green lately. Even though it's not really a "summer" color, I decided to go with it for a much needed manicure.
I was wearing:
AMERICAN APPAREL ONESIE
THRIFTED SHORTS
MOSSIMO LEATHER SANDALS

June 7, 2014

Today was a great day. Ben was able to come down to Statesboro in a last minute decision and I was able to get someone to cover my shift at work! Otherwise I wouldn't get to see him for another three weeks and that is WAY too long to be away from each other! So we decided to go to our favorite place, Savannah! Also, can I just take a moment to brag on his blooming photography skills! I am so grateful that he is such a trooper and loves to take pictures as much as I do!

Lately I cannot get enough of fringe! This top was at the store I work at and I fell in love immediately. I love the macrame knot effect too- it would probably be really easy to make! (I'll have to look into a possible DIY). I bought some mom jeans at a thrift store awhile ago and turned them into these shorts. Why pay for what you can make yourself?

Spring/Summer 2014 Look Book Project

First of all, I apologize a thousand times for neglecting my blog for so long. This is my last semester of college and I am just trying to graduate and get a big-girl job! I have had SO many things that I have wanted to blog about, so every now and then when I get some free time, my blog will get some much needed TLC. I am already designing a new layout for it, which I will probably give more detail on in a future post. I want it to reflect me and my personality, and right now I feel it is too cluttered and noisy for my taste.

Here is the digital copy of the brochure I created for my Computer-Aided Design class! We were told to create a trend/forecasting editorial in the form of a lookbook for the upcoming Spring 2014 season trends. We then had to assemble a group of looks and colors that supported our trend and forecasting theme, and plan and execute a photo shoot using the looks. I used Jeffrey Deal to shoot my project, a great photographer that I have worked with before. I decided that simpler was better, so we just used the photography lab on campus as our location. We were not expecting the black backdrop, but it was either that or a neon green color! I was so thankful for Jeff and how hard he worked with the lighting/set we had to produce some really great images!

The black border is just to show the page dimensions, and not part of the original design. I used a great site called Blurb to create my brochure! They have InDesign plugins that you can download and use to create layouts and templates for any shape, size, or thickness of book! As a graphic communications major, I found this site to be very helpful for typesetting and formatting any kind of project, and definitely recommend it to anyone! My project is in the mail and on its way to me now- I can't wait to see it!

Blue Jeans

My really talented friend Kenny Olowoyo and I were in the photo lab in the Art building shooting for one of his projects, and these shots were just us goofing around.

I love a good t-shirt and blue jeans, and these jeans are my absolute favorite. I got them on sale at Urban Outfitters last year, and wear them with everything! I love that they are high-waisted and stretchy, so they are super flattering and comfy (as you can probably tell from all the contortion-istic (is that a word?) poses.)
I just noticed that my mouth is open in almost every photo. I don't really have an answer for that one.

My Shopping Cart

So, I thought I'd share what I'm waiting on the mailman for this week (besides W2 forms!).
I am extremely thrifty, and it kills me to pay full price for anything. So when I see jewelry or trendy pieces on lookbook.nu or any other place, I start with eBay. eBay.com has vendors from all over the world, most of which offer free shipping and wholesale prices! So if the pieces break a month from now, at least I only paid $4 for the lot!
I always liked the "That Hurt's" t-shirt design from Threadless. It just so happened that a couple days ago I was browsing, and it was on sale + free shipping! So, I scooped it up, and even though it's a little different from the style I usually wear, I know I'll find cool ways of making it work.

Fantastic Mr. Fox

Happy Halloween! I decided to enter into the spirit of things and play dress up. Who better to dress as than the dapper, fantastic Mr. Fox?

I Saw Her Standing There/50th post!

Hello! It's been awhile since my last post, school has been absolutely ridiculous. So many group projects! And guess what?! It's my 50th post! OHTBL is still in the process of renovation, but I'm so proud of how far it has come in the past few months. Thank you to all who stop by, I hope I will continue to amuse/inspire you in some way!

Man, oh man, you're my best friend

"Alabama, Arkansas, I do love my Ma & Pa
Not the way that I do love you"

Ok, so I am mildly obsessed with houndstooth, and this dress that I got at Entourage is perfect! It's soft and a thicker than other knits, so it will be perfect to wear with tights and boots when the chilly weather comes through!

Dweebs

We are a couple of dweebs. Straight up.

We shot these photos last night, on the brink of the biggest storm of the summer. It wasn't even really planned, it just kind of happened. The wind was raging, the lighting flashing, the works. In retrospect, this probably was not the wisest idea, but we were in a hurry and were feeling frisky. I love this Express dress- when I found it at Goodwill I literally danced when I tried it on and it fit perfectly.

I love this top. Well, I love it now. I think my grandma gave it to me, like a decade ago, and its been hiding in my closet until I happened across it a few weeks ago. Back then, when I was a gawkward, gangly, bean pole, all I wanted was to fit in. Oh, the money I've wasted over the years on Abercrombie and Hollister, trying to impress the masses of bland kids who I've never seen again.  I'm still on the uphill, baby! You can only go up from the rock-bottoms of middle school.

Nancy Drew

I love books. They are a present that you can open again and again. They are always a friend when you're lonely, and can take you to another world. If I could have my way, I'd have a huge library like the ones from My Fair Lady or Beauty and the Beast, surrounded by my favorite literature. In 100 years, who is to say that books will even survive? The internet is slowly replacing the worn, loved, and dog-eared pages that I love so dearly. So, books are a treasure to me. I have four 1930-1940 Edition Nancy Drew books that I got from my grandmother that I adore, as well as a number of other vintage books. The scent of and old book combined with hot tea is such a familiar and comforting scent that is one of my favorites.

I love masks. And lace. And big bows. So I threw them all together and traipsed out into the woods for an adventure. This sheer lace dress was actually thrifted and revised to what you see here. The only issue is the waist is a little large on me; a belt would have fixed that problem. I found the mask in the dollar store around Marti-Gras, and I wear it occasionally in society- usually when I take out the trash. I get a lot of funny looks.
