Typography Final Project *sneak peak*

I know it's been forever since I've blogged. I have been stroke-worthy busy lately with finals week coming up, and I don't like just flinging any old thing into the blogosphere. Believe me, I've had some really blog-worthy projects lately, and I will try to share them with you ASAP!

Anyways, I thought I would give you a sneak peak at a few pages of the new project I'm working on.

I'll explain/tell you more about it later! xx

Fantastic Mr. Fox

Happy Halloween! I decided to enter into the spirit of things and play dress up. Who better to dress as than the dapper, fantastic Mr. Fox?

Little Red

What do y'all think of my window design concept? This is part of a project for my visual merchandising course. Among other things, we have to come up with a detailed plan for a window display, including a theme, color scheme, and include design elements such as balance, shape, and line. I've always liked the whole "dark fairy tale" idea, and movies like "Snow White and the Huntsman" and "Red Riding Hood" have recently made it popular. Obviously, this is a bare-bones style board, but it helps me to visualize it all better. We decided to do a vintage store, because well, they're better, and we would have more freedom as far as the clothes we advertised.
It's a modern take on a classic. We have the dapper wolf, and the lace and crimson clad Red. The background will be dark, maybe with some Christmas lights to give a little depth. I'll create branches from cardboard boxes and spray paint them black to create a black forest mask around the window. Then we can focus on the mannequins, and have a solitary light illuminating them.

I Saw Her Standing There/50th post!

Hello! It's been awhile since my last post, school has been absolutely ridiculous. So many group projects! And guess what?! It's my 50th post! OHTBL is still in the process of renovation, but I'm so proud of how far it has come in the past few months. Thank you to all who stop by, I hope I will continue to amuse/inspire you in some way!

Man, oh man, you're my best friend

"Alabama, Arkansas, I do love my Ma & Pa
Not the way that I do love you"

Ok, so I am mildly obsessed with houndstooth, and this dress that I got at Entourage is perfect! It's soft and a thicker than other knits, so it will be perfect to wear with tights and boots when the chilly weather comes through!

Watermark

Watermark by Enya on Grooveshark
This song is what I feel Jesus will be like. The way it makes you feel is more powerful than any written word; to try to describe it would do it injustice.

It was always you.

This half of the year, we don't have much to look forward to until Christmas. Come January, it's Ben's birthday, Valentine's Day, my birthday, and then our real anniversary, all in the span of a couple months. So I wanted to do something special on our 2 and a half year anniversary, since Ben has been so sweet and supportive of me, and because we both needed a little cheering up.

Typography Assignment

This was our second assignment in my Typography course. It really encompassed everything that goes into making a font, which is WAY harder than it looks. We had to visually correct and refine letters to produce a legible and readable font, which takes many many drafts and steps, which you can observe below.

What I have been up to.

What I have been up to? Let me show you!
With school being so busy, I haven't been able to post very often. I'm still frusterated with my blog layout in general, and am working on design plans to change it.

Coco Rocha for Interview Russia

I can't help it, Coco is just....amazing. I warned you that I am mildly obsessed with her. I just love her poses. I would LOVE to be at Fashion's Night Out tonight, all my favorite models and designers just out and about?
I would die.
But sadly, I cannot afford the long treck up to NY, so will have to be consoled reading my September Issue of VOGUE and dreaming up outlandish photo shoots and campaigns.

Anyhoo, here is my Top 10 (well...thirteen-because they are all amazing) Lovely List for the week, featuring again, Mrs. Rocha.

Liebster Award!

I had never heard of the Liebster Award until today, when two sweet girls, Joanna from Who The F*uck is Chanel, and Tori from styleoftori, both nominated me. At first I didn't understand, but then I got kind of excited about it! Apparently, The Liebster Award is given to those great bloggers with less than 200 followers!  It's a great way to network and find more out about the bloggers you love! Since I was nominated by two bloggers, I'll try to compile my answers to my 11 favorite of their questions. Also, I get to nominate 11 bloggers! If I nominate you, you can post this badge on your page!

Coco Rocha for Shinsegae

As you should know, or will find out- I adore Coco Rocha. And I adore behind-the-scenes of photo shoots of Coco. Photo shoots allow us to create another world, another dimension where anything can happen. It doesn't matter how cheap or luxurious the garments are, we are captivated by the brilliance of color, movement, shape, and sometimes sound, that emanates from them and inspires us.

Music Mail Monday

Today marks the return of Music Mail Mondays: Lyrics that speak to me, delivered lovingly to you!
I love this old hymn, Come Thou Fount Of Every Blessing. It's so heartfelt, and I love the imagery of it.
This whole stanza sticks out to me, I think because it is my own heart-cry. "Prone to wander Lord I feel it, prone to leave the God I love." Unlike in the play "Faustus", there is no point-of-no-return with God. He is always there to pull me up, as dirty and unworthy as I feel. It's never too late. That kind of grace and compassion alone fills me with peace and joy.

Knockin' on Heaven's Door

Mama, take this badge off of me
I can't use it anymore.
It's gettin' dark, too dark for me to see
I feel like I'm knockin' on heaven's door.

Kid In the Corner

Random thought alert, but I never thought it an effective punishment to put a kid in the corner. Save the embarrassment and slight blow to pride, I'd say they get off pretty easy. However, I'd much rather stick my nose in a corner than be at the mercy of a ruler, wooden spoon or Mama's bare hand!

Anyways- stay tuned for my next post- tonight we are shooting at this beautiful stone church downtown! Im so excited- it has a big red door and everything! I'm so glad we can shoot again, it's been ages!

Eleven Paris

So I was on Lookbook today, which never ceases to amaze/inspire/shock me (in good and bad ways),  when I came across someone wearing the shirt with Karl Lagerfeld and the mustache (pictured below). I literally LOL'd. Two of my favorite things wrapped in the same tongue-in-cheek combination of supreme hilarity?! I had to check this website out, called "Eleven Paris".

Turns out, they have a lot of celebrities playing along, including Mona Lisa, each picture with the caption "Life is a joke".
Isn't it? I mean, stuff happens. It's tiring to be so anxious about everything all the time.
That's why I wish I could afford one of these darlings, but at around fifty bucks a pop I couldn't justify it.

Freedom

All I can say peeps- I'M FREEEEE!
I'm over and DONE with my internship and can breathe again!
School starts Monday, but in the meantime I have nothing to do and all day to get there!
No more 10 hour shifts or working Saturdays!
I just used a lot of exclamation points.

My social life this week:
I've really fallen off the social wagon. But I actually crawled out from under my rock this week to participate in the following:
1. I watched most of the closing ceremonies of the Olympics with Ben and his roommate- mostly to see if the Spice Girls really were performing.
2. Last night I got to participate in a music video for a local band, and I can't wait to share the results with you! It was a lot of fun, a good way to cap off this summer. They had the audience filming on iPhone's as well, so the footage should be interesting!

On a totally unrelated note, I re-vamped an old look in Photoshop and for some reason it reminded me of Anberlin's lyrics:

Clap your hands all ye children
There's a clamor in your whispering
Clap your hands tonight
Hear what the silence screams
Clap your hands
Clap your hands now all ye children
Clap your hands all ye children
There's a clamor in your whispering tonight

She's got you high and you don't even know yet
She's got you high and you don't even know yet
The sun's in the sky, its warming up your bare legs
You can't deny your looking for the sunset

Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove:
O no! it is an ever-fixed mark
That looks on tempests and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wandering bark,
Whose worth's unknown, although his height be taken.
Love's not Time's fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle's compass come:
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out even to the edge of doom.
If this be error and upon me proved,
I never writ, nor no man ever loved.

Just a heads up.
This week starts the 10 hour shifts at my internship, including Saturdays. Blog posting will be infrequent, if at all, including Lookbook. It sucks, but I simply won't have time or energy. Once school starts and the madness eases up some, I'll be around more.

C'est la vie.

As I was perusing through Urban Outfitters website today, I came across these darlings
Best. Idea. Ever. So yea...I just wanted to share that.

And I kind of want one.

We shot these photos last night, on the brink of the biggest storm of the summer. It wasn't even really planned, it just kind of happened. The wind was raging, the lighting flashing, the works. In retrospect, this probably was not the wisest idea, but we were in a hurry and were feeling frisky. I love this Express dress- when I found it at Goodwill I literally danced when I tried it on and it fit perfectly.

Things have been insane lately. My internship has really sapped my strength, not to mention creative energy. I barely have time to sleep as it is. My day starts at 7am and ends at 5pm when I get off work, wolf down whatever my bare cupboards can scrounge, and fall into bed only to repeat it the next day. I know it sounds like I'm complaining, I try not to. I really am thankful for this internship. Without it I can't graduate. Anyways, I've really fallen behind on my posting. I have so many ideas, but with the weekends being my only time off, creative things get put on the back burner. BUT, I have fun posts coming up, so stay tuned!
This is just me. Simple. Nothing fancy.

She's my hero. She can do no wrong I tell you!

It's time I try my hand at levitation.
It's like seeing sound, or wind, or emotion.
It's like looking at how music, a field of wildflowers, or a kiss, make me feel.
It's amazing

This weekend I'll experiment, but if I don't like the results I won't post them. Especially following these glorious shots. I need to hone my Photoshop skills anyways.
Check out Miss Aniela and Brooke Shaden, many of whose images are featured above. They will blow your mind with their extraordinary gift for photography.

I love this top. Well, I love it now. I think my grandma gave it to me, like a decade ago, and its been hiding in my closet until I happened across it a few weeks ago. Back then, when I was a gawkward, gangly, bean pole, all I wanted was to fit in. Oh, the money I've wasted over the years on Abercrombie and Hollister, trying to impress the masses of bland kids who I've never seen again.  I'm still on the uphill, baby! You can only go up from the rock-bottoms of middle school.
